As a result of the new parliamentary constituency boundary changes, two wards in Westminster, which belonged to the former Westminster North constituency, have merged with the Kensington constituency to form the new Kensington and Bayswater parliamentary constituency.
Consequently, on 12 October 2023 it was announced that the former Kensington Constituency Labour Party (i.e. Kensington Labour) had become the Kensington and Bayswater Constituency Labour Party (i.e. Kensington & Bayswater Labour, alias KBCLP).
The two wards from Westminster are Bayswater and Lancaster Gate. They will form their own branch within Kensington & Bayswater Labour, called BAYLAG, joining the North West, North East and South branches.
Although the boundary change means that the parliamentary boundary now is somewhat different from the Kensington border within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the Labour members in Kensington will, of course, continue to support the RBKC Labour councillors and fight for a Labour majority in the next local election, as well as for our MP candidate, Joe Powell, in the next general election – just as the Labour members in the Bayswater and Lancaster Gate wards will continue to support the Labour councillors in the Westminster City Council while also fighting for Joe.
