Get involved
Want to join your local Labour Party?
Labour is in government, and with Joe Powell’s victory in July 2024, we have a Labour MP for Kensington and Bayswater.
Now is a great time to join the party, and get involved in local campaigns, influence policy, and help decide the future of the party. Kensington & Bayswater Labour, our constituency Labour Party, is divided inte four branches, which means that members are also members of their local branch, where they can hold elected positions like branch chair or branch secretary. Branches are great ways for members to organise in their area, ask questions of their councillors, and run local campaigns.
Here’s how you can get involved with Kensington & Bayswater Labour.
Stand for election
Kensington & Bayswater Labour is run by an executive committee, made up of a chair, vice-chair, secretary and other key positions like policy officer and youth officer. Each branch is also run by a branch executive, made up of a branch chair, branch vice-chair, and branch secretary.
All of these are elected positions, and any member can stand. Elections take place at our annual general meeting, or if a position becomes vacant. These are great roles to take on; you can learn more about how local democracy works, build up your political experience, and get to know other members.
We currently have vacancies for positions in some of our branches. If you are interested in getting involved, please get in touch with with Billy Beckett (vice-chair for campaigns and membership).
Attend meetings and discussions
Kensington & Bayswater Labour is divided into four branches:
- The North West branch, for those living in the Dalgarno, St Helen’s, Notting Dale and Norland wards.
- The North East branch, for those living in the Golborne, Colville and Pembridge wards.
- The South branch, for those living in the wards south of Holland Park Avenue and Notting Hill Gate.
- The Bayswater & Lancaster Gate branch (BAYLAG), for those living in Westminster’s Bayswater and Lancaster Gate wards.
We have regular branch meetings as well as meetings for all members in Kensington & Bayswater Labour, where we elect new officers and delegates, discuss local issues and policies, and plan campaigns.
Any member is welcome, and we generally go for an informal drink afterwards. It’s a great way to meet other members and get more involved in the party.
Meeting schedule
Branch meetings: 6 times a year (once every two months)
All member meetings: 6 times a year (once every two months)
