At the 2 May elections, Norland elects a new councillor. Labour’s candidate is Monica Press. This has come about because of a sudden announcement from the Kensington and Chelsea council on 21 March 2024, that one of the two councillors representing the Norland ward, Stuart Graham, had resigned with immediate effect after having held the seat for less than two years.
As a consequence, when we all vote in the elections of Mayor of London and London Assembly representatives on 2 May, the Norland voters will also have a by-election to fill that councillor seat.
The Labour candidate, Monica Press, who is the current chair of Kensington & Bayswater Labour, has lived in Kensington for 30 years and has extensive experience representing residents on the issues that matter: anti-social behaviour, policing, the environment, planning and housing.
She was a very active councillor for the Colville ward from 2014 to 2022 and chaired the council’s housing & property scrutiny committee for some of that time. She is also a qualified Citizens Advice Bureau adviser, which is an advantage when helping and advising constituents. All this makes her vastly more experienced than any of the other candidates.
Let’s help Monica win this councillor seat for Labour, in a ward that has been held by Tory councillors for exactly to the day 50 years ago. On 2 May 1974, after the Norland ward borders had been redrawn and the number of seats had changed from four to two, the Tories took both those seats and have held them ever since. On 2 May 2024, Norland voters will have a real chance to vote for change!
